Midnight in Paris

Saw Midnight in Paris at work a few days ago. It was so beautiful and whimsical and silly; there are so many lovely words to describe it. Half of the literary and artistic references definitely went over my head but I’m sure everyone else was just pretending to know. Above all, it really was just a thoroughly enjoyable and enchanting watch, one of those where you come out smiling at the end. Owen Wilson for Woody Allen president?

Atonement

I tried to watch
Atonement last night but I had to switch it off before it all turned too hideously bleak, which it turns out is only 40 minutes in. It breaks my heart. When I first read the book it caught me up in an unexpected wave of hopelessness for days, as if the anguish was my own. The film is so beautiful that I've been tempting myself to finish watching it all day but, like when watching Titanic, I switched it off at the perfect point to pretend that they all lived happily ever after. On an end note, I think I actually hate the character of Briony more than anyone I've ever known.

Keira Knightley love strikes again.

Camille

Watched Camille yesterday from the depths of food poisoned hell. It was pretty fucking weird but I think I liked it (just about), despite the characters being a bit two dimensional, meaning that I didn't always get the validity behind their motives. However, I love Sienna Miller and I think more people should. Any film that she’s in gets bypassed straight away because she's classically judged on her personal life, and she’s been in some great films.

Last Night

Last Night
was filmed almost three years ago now and it still doesn't have a bloody UK release date. It’s started coming out across Europe though so I finally managed to watch it online. I know I’m probably biased since I adore Guillaume Canet/all French men/Guillaume Canet but my god, was I on his team. It’s very slow paced and entirely character driven which means I, of course, cried loads. Someone put it in a cinema dammit.

A Town Called Panic

Drank too much tea today, can’t sleep. This time of night is terrible for melancholy reflection on all aspects of life, so out comes A Town Called Panic instead. It’s like a friendly hug…in a film. I’m pretty sure it’s love.

Jeux D'enfants

Just about to settle down and watch Jeux D’enfants, possibly my favourite film in the world, possibly for the millionth viewing. The trailer isn't the greatest since it appears to be trying to appeal to the rom-com lovers, and rom-com it is not. My favourite loser fact about this film is that it created the world’s most beautiful couple, Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard, although it took them another five years since when it was made Guillaume Canet was still married to that tart Diane Kruger.
